Looking for relaxed in-home newborn photography in Geelong? This beautiful session with baby Ford on his family's small farm in Lethbridge is a perfect example of why I love photographing newborns where families feel most at home.

With curious older siblings, alpacas, dogs, chickens and plenty of room to explore, there wasn't a need for elaborate props or complicated posing. We simply slowed down, followed the kids' lead and documented this season exactly as it looked and felt.

Why choose an in-home newborn photography session?

One of the questions I'm asked most often is whether families should choose an in-home session or come into my natural light studio.

The answer? There isn't a right or wrong choice.

For this family, home was perfect.

The twins were surrounded by everything they love, from their cowboy boots to the chickens waiting in the coop. We wandered outside first while everyone settled in, then headed indoors for cuddles with baby Ford once little legs started to tire.

The result was a gallery that feels unmistakably them. Relaxed. Honest. Full of the tiny details they'll treasure years from now.

Newborn sessions aren't just about the newest arrival.

What to wear for newborn photos

For this session we mixed pieces from my client wardrobe with clothing the family already owned, including my vintage bassinet, wraps and soft knitwear.

Choosing a simple colour palette of creams, soft neutrals and earthy textures helped keep the focus where it belonged, on connection rather than clothing.

Photographing newborns with toddlers

Let's be honest. Toddlers don't usually want to sit still. And that's completely okay.

Rather than expecting perfect smiles or asking children to perform for the camera, I let them explore, cuddle, play and simply be themselves.

For these toddlers, that meant feeding animals, running around the yard and checking on their new baby brother whenever curiosity struck.

Those natural interactions almost always create the photographs families love the most.

What if my baby is in special care or NICU?

Sometimes babies need a little extra care after they're born. If your little one spends time in special care or NICU, please don't worry about the "ideal" age for newborn photos. Your baby's health and your family's wellbeing always come first.

Once everyone is settling into your new routine, we'll simply find a date that feels right. Beautiful photographs aren't limited to a particular number of days old, and I'd much rather photograph a family that's feeling ready than one that's feeling rushed.

What if I'm recovering from a caesarean?

Recovery looks different for everyone. If you've had a caesarean birth, the last thing I want is for your newborn session to feel like another thing you have to push through.

If you need a little more time, that's completely OK. We'll simply adjust your session date so you can focus on healing.
